Personal, Camping and Medical

HOW TO...

CAMPING EQUIPMENT AND PERSONAL

So what to take, what clothes, camp equipment, which other outdoor needs?
It really depends on how everyone wants to set up camp, where to sit and cook.

It also depends on what everybody thinks is enough after a hard overlander's day or a strenuous track. We sleep on the roof, but also have a small ground tent, matresses, sleeping bags, pillows and a blanket as a classic, mosquito screen, sunsail. We cook on campfires as often as we can, if not we have a Coleman gas cooker with grill and a 5kg gas bottle.
Table, captain's chairs, crockery, plates, cutlery, 60l of water in canisters, a water filter and other camp stuff (axe, spade, numerous knives for every occasion, etc), a wash bowl, food boxes, torches, headlights, and an oil lamp. And for relaxation fishing rods, hunting stuff (bow, arrows), playing cards and much more...

MEDICAL

And what about the first aid kit, vaccinations and health needs?

Vaccination recommendations:

yellow fever, typhus, hepthitis A + B, cholera, ticks, rabies,
Meningitis, and check your Polio and Tetanus vaccinations as well...so pretty much everything

We took an ordinary car first aid kit with us and this stuff from the pharmacy:

antibiotics, ear- nose- and eye drops, insect repellent, anti sunburn cream, antimalarics (never used), skin cream, fungicidal cream, moisturiser, petroleum jelly, pills for digestive disorders (expect these!!!), peppermint oil (against bloating and stomache aches), clove oil (numbs toothache), painkillers, fever pills, pills against genital infections, hand steriliser and lasst but not least water desinfectant.
Also, we took "hardware" like: scissors, tweezers, surgical gloves, transfusion sets and syringes, band aids, bandages, thermometer and handkerchiefs...just to name aa few.

Someone might think we are crazy, but it's better to have in any circumstances when travelling through poor, unknown countries. Better to have all of it than watching how they use rusty scalpells or used needles.

If you think of anything else we might have forgotten here, just drop us a mail, we can tell you what we took for nothing and what we really needed!
